I Ching reading: frequently asked questions

Does AI cast the coins or decide the chart?

No. The browser generates the six line values and the rule engine calculates the chart and its traditional analysis. Optional AI receives computed facts and writes an explanation; it does not select the lines or change the rule-based result.

What information is sent when I use AI?

When a new reading is cast and AI is available, the service sends your question, cast time, category, line values, and computed chart facts to the configured language-model provider so the summary and advice can be tailored to your question. The tailored text is saved with the record, so revisiting it later shows the same words without another request. Follow-up questions and recent conversation messages are sent when you use the follow-up feature. Do not include information you do not want processed by that provider.

Where is my reading history stored?

Reading history is kept in local storage in the current browser. It is not a cloud account and does not automatically sync across browsers or devices. Clearing site data removes the local history. You can review and clear saved records from the case-notes guide.

What happens when I submit feedback?

The feedback form sends a helpful/not-helpful rating, an optional comment, the reading category, language, a short chart hash, and a random anonymous browser identifier. It does not include the question text or IP address. On Vercel, feedback is stored as private Blob objects and deleted after 90 days; local and self-hosted deployments use a JSONL file. If online storage is not configured or a write fails, the API reports that feedback could not be saved. The identifier is not an account or verified identity; clearing browser data or switching devices changes it.

Is the reading professional advice?

No. Agua is a cultural and reflective tool. It is not a medical diagnosis, legal opinion, financial recommendation, or emergency service. Use qualified professionals and authoritative information for consequential decisions.

Is the service free?

The reading tool is currently available without a paid account. AI availability depends on the service configuration and may be limited. If AI is unavailable, the deterministic chart and rule-based result remain available.

Can a reading guarantee what will happen?

No. A traditional reading is not a verified forecast. Treat it as one way to reflect on a question, not as evidence or certainty.
