Obstruction 水山蹇
☵☶ Water over Mountain
Obstruction: turn inward.
Hexagram 39 is about obstruction: a steep path, a river, or a mountain in the way. It does not say to stop forever. It says the right move is to read the terrain, change direction if needed, and seek help. Good counsel and patience come before forward motion.
Judgment
利西南，不利东北。利见大人，贞吉。
It is favorable to head southwest and unfavorable to head northeast. It is favorable to meet a great person; perseverance brings good fortune.

Water on the mountain: obstruction. The noble person turns inward and cultivates virtue.

When the way forward is hard, joining with others is how you get through. Look for allies before you push ahead alone.
九五：大蹇朋来。
Great obstruction, and friends come.
At a difficult point, help often arrives from people you did not expect. Accept support when it is offered.
上六：往蹇来硕，吉；利见大人。
Going forward meets obstruction; coming back brings abundance and good fortune. It is favorable to seek out a person of stature.
Pausing to reflect and seeking wise counsel can leave you stronger than before. Ask someone with experience for advice.

Feelings can be blocked by distance, misunderstanding, or bad timing. Pause before pressing for an answer, and let the other person come closer where possible. A trusted friend can help you see the situation clearly.

A project may be blocked by a dependency or a difficult stakeholder. Re-plan the route, bring in people who can help, and avoid forcing a path through an obstacle that is not moving.
