Hexagram 25 of 64

Innocence

☰☳ Heaven over Thunder

Acting without scheming.

Hexagram 25 is about acting with a clear heart. Its image is thunder moving under heaven, which sets everything into its natural course. It favors sincere, unforced action, the kind that is not driven by a hidden plan or by greed. When you are honest about what you want and why, things tend to flow more smoothly.

Judgment

Sublime success through perseverance. If one is not upright, misfortune follows; it is unfavorable to go anywhere.

Image

Thunder rolls under heaven: innocence. The early kings nurtured all things in their season.

The six lines

Read from the bottom line (the beginning) to the top line (the outcome). Each line gives the classical text, our English translation, and a plain-language reading.

Acting without ulterior motive. Going forward brings good fortune.

If you act sincerely and without hidden agendas, your steps will be received well.

Reaping without plowing, harvesting without clearing new ground or tilling the second-year field. Then it is favorable to set out.

Expect results only from honest effort. Do not count on what you have not yet prepared for.

Misfortune that comes without fault: someone ties up an ox, a passerby takes it, and the townspeople suffer the loss.

Trouble can arrive from circumstances you did not cause. Check who is really responsible before blaming yourself or taking on someone else's problem.

Steadfast perseverance is possible. No blame.

Holding firmly to your principles is the right course here, and it carries no fault.

An affliction that is not your fault. Do not rush to force a cure, and joy will come.

Not every setback needs a forceful fix. Patience and avoiding overreaction can let it settle on its own.

Acting without sincerity brings calamity. Nothing is favorable.

If you push ahead with mixed motives, the result is likely to harm you. Return to sincerity first.

In practice

Love and relationships

Be direct and sincere about what you want. Pretense or a hidden agenda tends to backfire, so let your words match your intentions.

Work and decisions

Do the task in front of you without hidden motives or shortcuts. Honest work builds trust, and it is worth checking the facts before you act on someone else's claim.

Money

Avoid schemes or plans that depend on luck. Decide on what is clearly in front of you, and be cautious with any offer that sounds too good to be true.

How to use this reading
